TEACHING

Master's degree in Environmental Science

The course is composed of two parts. The first part is devoted to the physics of the atmospheric boundary layer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and turbulence, with particular attention to the laws of motion for a fluid, the spatial and temporal scales, and the solutions of fundamental equations. This first part also comprises the description and the analysis of the properties of turbulence and transport, with particular attention to the atmospheric circulation at local scale. The second part the course is devoted to the processes of dispersion of passive pollutants in the atmosphere, with attention to processes and mechanisms occurring in the urban environment. This second part also comprises laboratory exercises using a dispersion model applied to different idealized and real scenarios.
