Piero Lionello

Ascanio Luigi Scambiati is a PhD student in Environmental Science at University of Salento with a thesis about the specific problematics related to the global climate change and its impacts in the Mediterranean region; supervisor prof. Piero Lionello.

Ascanio L.scambiati received his Bachelor degree in Physics of Atmosphere and Meteorology at University of Bologna in 2014 with the dissertation “Analysis of three intense precipitation events on Liguria and Tuscany”; supervisor prof. Vincenzo Levizzani.

In 2015 he moved in United Kingdom where the year after he achieved the Master of Science degree in Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate with Distinction with the dissertation project “Factors affecting the evolutions of a European Windstorm”; supervisor prof. Susan L. Gray In September 2013 he participated to an internship at National Research Council in the Italian Institute of Atmosphere and Climate on the study and interpretation of satellite images for the detection of deep convection in the Mediterranean region.

From 2011 and 2014 he worked part-time for a web-site as forecaster. In 2011 he participated to the seminar “Stormvention” on the observation of the extreme meteorological events and strategy to tackle these kind of phenomena.

Ascanio is a member of “Centro Meteo Lombardo” a no-profit organisation that studies the climate and micro-climate of Lombardy region. As part of this association, he manages the meteorological observatory in his native village, Bornasco near Pavia (Lombardy, Italy)
