Operational Oceanography produces forecasts of oceanographic variables (waves, currents, sea level….) in analogy to weather forecasts, but in relation to the marine environment and ocean. In general, these forecasts are implemented by means of numerical models for forecasting and have practical purposes, such as management of harbors, coastal defenses, protection of the populations along the coasts and safety of navigation. In Italy a specific problem is the coastal floods in the North Adriatic and of the City of Venice. The research carried out in the laboratory develops new methods and modeling approaches to improve the precision of prediction and enrich its information content.
